Now, I know that everyone who is just starting an indoor garden wants to see immediate results, the very day after planting the seeds, but the harsh truth is – you will have to grow some patience with those plants as well, my friends!

But, truth be told, there are some amazing fast growing herbs that will provide you with a lush indoor garden almost overnight.

Even better news:

Most will overwinter and continue to grow rich and strong the next spring as well.

So, if you are up for some delicious adventure, here is a list of my favorite fast growing herbs:

1. Mint

Mint is not only one of my favorite herbs for its amazingly fresh taste, but it is also among the fastest growing herbs.

So, if you enjoy a cup of nice fresh tea in the morning as I do, or if you just want to have immediate results and see how well off your little indoor garden is – you should most definitely plant mint!

How fast does mint grow?

As there are so many types of mint (spearmint, peppermint, water mint, lemon mint, etc.), it is a bit hard to tell precisely how fast it grows.

But, peppermint can fill a 4-inch pot in less than four weeks.

Just give a look at it!

And in 4 more weeks, you will certainly have to put it in a larger pot. And in about 6 months – you will have a fully grown 2 feet tall plant.

That’s a toddler right there!

Besides, they are growing wide too, so the area of growth will be bigger too.

Tips on growing mint:

• So, my friends, be sure NOT to plant mint in the same container with other herbs. It will take over. It grows that fast!
• Give your mint enough morning sun.
• Harvest mint before it flowers.
• Don’t plant it in soil that is too moist, it doesn’t like it.

2. Cilantro

Cilantro is often grown for its magnificent fragrant leaves.

This one prefers spring and fall temperatures to the hot summers, and it will grow during the winter.

If you, however, live in a very hot area, here is a list of herbs you can grow.

Besides, you can harvest the leaves in just a few weeks from planting, so don’t miss on this one if you want some fast growing herbs for your home cuisine.

How fast does cilantro grow?

If you are growing cilantro from seeds, you can start harvesting it as soon as 3 weeks from planting.

And for the cilantro seeds (or coriander when dried), you can start harvesting these in only 45 days.

Tips on growing cilantro:

• Cilantro bolts quickly in hot weather, so keep it in the light shades.
• Saw cilantro every 2 to 3 weeks.
• The soil should be well-drained but moist.
• Cut the flowers, it will make it grow bigger.

Should you plant cilantro from seed or plant?

It is always a better option to go with seeds. There are two main reasons for this:

1. It develops a taproot and hates being transplanted
2. It grows very fast and doesn’t need a plant to start with

Once you put oregano seeds in the soil, it will take only 5 to 10 days to sprout.

And from then on, it will be only 2-3 weeks before your new favorite fast growing herb is ready to be harvested.

Tips on growing oregano:

• Plant it in well-drained and light soil.
• Do not add any fertilizers in the soil – oregano grows better without it.
• Give it enough light – the flavor is so much better!

4. Dill

Dill is another gorgeous fast growing herb that you can easily grow in your indoor garden.

And I don’t mean gorgeous for its cute feathery looks, but for the mild fresh taste that it gives to your dishes.

I must say, I am just obsessed with dill. There is not a single dish in which I will not put this herb.

And, luckily, it grows fast enough to feed our whole family!

How fast does dill grow?

Once you plant the seeds, it will take only about 10 days before you can see the little sprouts.

Within another 10 to 14 days, you will be able to harvest and use it.

Tips on growing dill:

• If you keep your dill on a window seal, make sure to protect it from strong winds.
• Use special soil mix for herbs and not garden soil.
• Mix some compost into the soil before planting.

Dill doesn’t grow that well when it is transplanted, so it is always best to start from seeds.

5. Basil

Another super fast growing herb is basil.

What you should know about basil is that it has seed leaves and true leaves.

These seed leaves appear when the plant starts emerging from the soil, and those true leaves are the one that you should use.

The seed leaves grow right from what is inside of a seed, but once basil has developed some nice roots, the second set of leaves or the first set of true leaves will be there to make you happy!

How fast does basil grow?

Basil needs only 8 days to start emerging from the soil you have planted it into.

Just look at the speed of this sweet basil!

The first leaves should appear after two weeks tops, and this means that your basil is ready to be harvested, used and even dried for later use.

Besides, the plant should be about 6 inches tall!
